Three Men Plead Guilty to Running Illegal Sportsbetting Ring

Law enforcement officials in San Diego have announced that three men have plead guilty to racketeering conspiracy charges related to their involvement in running an illegal sports gambling ring.

Jan Portocarrero, Erik Portocarrero, and Joseph Barrios all plead guilty to the charges, admitting to running a telephone and internet gambling sports betting ring dubbed "Macho Sports". The operation ran from Lima, Peru but serviced the United States, specializing in the state of California.

In addition to taking and processing bets, the trio also strong armed debtors and laundered money from the operation. A federal investigation into Macho Sports began in 2011 and led to 18 people being arrested in Norway, San Diego, and Las Angeles.

No sentencing information has been revealed as of the publication of this article.
