RAWA Could Kill Mobile Sportsbetting in Nevada

The Restoration of America’s Wire Act bill could potentially kill Nevada’s legal mobile sportsbetting industry, which is currently worth more than $3.9 billion.

The Las Vegas Review Journal reported this week that RAWA could kill the mobile sportsbetting industry in the Silver State, causing concern among some large industry leaders.

Of concern is the fact that the bill would have provisions that prohibit the transmission of gambling information through wire communications across state lines. That move could shut down mobile sportsbetting, causing a big disruption in an industry already struggling to maintain revenues.

Voicing his concerns, William Hill USA executive Joe Asher said, “There are thousands of Nevadans who bet sports on their mobile phone today in a highly regulated and appropriate fashion,” Asher said. “The idea that we would take away our customers’ ability to bet on their mobile phones, one of the key growth areas in the business, doesn’t make sense.”
