79 Belgian punters playing games at the online betting site Betclic were fined by the Belgian Gambling Commission for playing at an unlicensed website.

According to the BGC each player was fined €200, which is less than the max fine that can be laid down of €150,000. The regulator says that the 79 fines are just the tip of the iceberg, as more than 180 other gamblers are being processed for fines. Betclic itself has been fined €150,000 for offering unlicensed services to punters.

Commenting on the fines BGC President Ettienne Marique said, "There will be more significant convictions on those who have played more money, or depending on the players’ occupation. Among them, there is a police officer, for example."
