Unibet, Playtech Jump on Apple Watch Bandwagon

Internet betting firms Unibet and Playtech have announced that they have developed apps that are compatible with the new Apple Watch, allowing punters an additional way to play on the go.

Unibet's watch app has been approved by Apple and will allow players to instantly sort out sportsbetting information that is pertinent to their interests. Playtech's app is similar, and gives punters a full sportsbetting experience on their wrist -- including the ability to cash out their winnings.

Commenting on his company's Apple Watch app Unibet Head of Sportsbook Marketing Ed Nicholson said, “We anticipate Apple Watch users initially using their watch as an information and communication tool, weeding out the wheat from the chaff of all the communication that reaches our smartphones these days. Timing and knowledge is everything, especially in today’s digital world. And that is never more true than in betting."

Playtech's app will first go live at Coral, with whom it has a Coral Connect agreement and will eventually roll out to other operators. It is believed that the cash out feature is currently unique for Playtech's app, and will definitely set Coral's mobile betting app apart from the rest for the short term.

Speaking about the app's release Coral Sportsbook Director Keith O'Loughlin said, “This is a fantastic, industry-first development that allows us to immediately engage with our customers on an entirely new level and significantly enhances our Omni-Channel solution with Playtech, our principal technology partner.”

The Apple Watch goes on sale today around the world and has reportedly been sold out online, with current orders only beginning to ship by June.
