The Italian Observatory on Online Gaming has released a new study prepared by the University of Milan, which shows that online gambling numbers in Italy were relatively flat last year, with the amount wagered going up a mere 0.1%.
For the year Italian punters wagered €726 million, with casino games making up €255 million or 31.5% of all online betting action. That number was up 7% from the year prior. Sportsbetting was the second most popular online betting activity, generating €214 million, while poker brought in €108 million.
Online poker has been flagging in Italy recently, with revenues falling 21% from 2013, while tournament action was down 18%.
While online gambling continues to expand throughout Europe, there was no reason given for the lack of growth in the Italian market.
