Various reports in Dutch newspapers this week claim that the Netherlands' new State Justice and Security Secretary Klaas Dijkhoff will continue to try and push regulated online gambling through the legal system.
The revelation came during a question and answer session in the country's House of Representatives, wherein Dijkhoff said he was committed to completing the regulation project that his predecessor had worked on for years. He also voiced his support for the provisions currently included in the law, including responsible gaming measures, keeping out illegal operators, and protecting vulnerable and minor gamblers.
Dijkhoff said that he is confident that the country will be able to clamp down on his country's ability to clamp down on offshore operators, noting how the Kansspelautoriteit and prosecutors have worked together to solve similar issues in the past.
Under Dutch law, illegal offshore operators could face fines and criminal prosecution if they continue to offer online gambling to punters after the Dutch regulation is put into place.
