Betfair and PokerStars Suffer DDoS Attack

This story was published more than 8 years ago.

Internet betting firms Betfair and Pokerstars both suffered an attack by hackers, who knocked the sites offline using a distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack, something that Betat Casino also suffered last week.

Betfair took to social media to confirm the attack, with the company tweeting, "We're currently experiencing a DDoS attack on our site. We're working to fix this as quickly as possible."

PokerStars did not confirm the attack, but the company did confirm slow response times for the website dating back to April 9th. The site eventually force restarted their server, and the poker site is fully operational as of the writing of this article.

Casino Listings will update this story as more developments arise.

Restarting a server isn't going to do anything to fix a ddos attack if the traffic is still coming in after the server restarts. So if a server restart fixed the problem then it is unlikely that Pokerstars' problem was a ddos.
