A bill that will reform Portugal's gambling laws took a major step this week as the country's Council of Ministers passed the bill.
Reforming the country's gambling laws to include online gambling would potentially bring €25 million to Portugal's coffers, and would also include stiffer regulations on TV or radio ads. Betting activities included in the bill are casino games, poker, and sports betting.
It is thought that once the bill is signed into law, it will be able to begin issuing 3 year gaming licenses by the 3rd quarter of this year.
A Portuguese statement on the bill read, "The bill will proceed with the regulation of online gambling in line with the recommendations issued by the European Commission on this matter and international best practices."
