Macau's Financial Services Bureau reported that gambling tax revenues for January were down by a whopping 27.5%.
For the month of January Macau brought in tax revenues of MOP 10.50 billion ($1.3 billion USD), which is down 27.5% or MOP 3,796,000,349 from the same period last year. Gambling was responsible for MOP 7,991,618,984, which is down from 11,987,418,157 last year. The lower revenues are attributed to lower gambling activity in Macau, which is attributed to Chinese crackdown on corruption.
Macau charges a tax of 35% on Gross Gaming Revenues, as well as a 4% Gross tax.
