Nevada state gambling authorities have released full year figures for 2014 that show that the state's gambling industry earned over $11 billion from punters, a 1.1% decline on the numbers from 2013. It ends the trend of annual gains in each of the previous four years.
Casinos in Nevada recorded a gambling win of $11.14 billion during 2014. Revenues on the Las Vegas Strip were down 2.1% to $6.37 billion in 2014, while Downtown Vegas numbers rose 2.1% to $511.4 million.
Sports betting generated record revenues of $227 million in the state, up 12% on the preceding year, from a total handle of $3.9 billion.
Releasing the December 2014 numbers, Nevada gaming officials reported that revenues across the state fell 8% to $950.7 million, with the key Las Vegas Strip operations suffering a 16.4% dive (a fifth consecutive negative month) at $555.2 million.
