Malaysian poker player and current criminal defendant Paul Phua has been restricted from playing poker while he faces charges on illegal sports betting in Las Vegas.
Phua put in an application to play poker while he and his son are out on bail, but that motion was rejected by Judge Carl Hoffman, who demanded the pro player stay away from participating in gambling activity while the case is ongoing.
Phua and his son are facing illegal sportsbetting charges, as the US Federal Government alleges the duo was orchestrating illegal betting during the 2014 FIFA World Cup. The pair are restricted from leaving Las Vegas until the case is resolved.
