Ontario's first legal online betting site has soft launched in its province, allowing 17,000 invited punters the chance to play the games ahead of a mainstream launch.
The site is dubbed PlayOLG, and is run by the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation, and will allow punters to partake in slots, table games, and lottery style games. With the launch of the site Ontario joins Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Quebec, and British Columbia as offering their residents online gambling services.
Punters looking to play on the site can deposit up to $9,999 per week via Visa, MasterCard, and Interac to their virtual bankrolls. It is hoped that online gambling will a sizable amount of tax revenue for the province, which has become cash strapped thanks to overspending and drops in revenue coming in.
Commenting on the soft launch OLG Vice President John Wisternoff said, “The player may be requested to provide a copy of government issued ID and this additional information may be requested at any point in time that the player is playing PlayOLG.”
