UK based betting firm William Hill has announced that it is suspending its Manilla based service center after it was revealed that the firm is under investigation for illegal gambling activities in the country.
The company is being investigated by the Philippines National Bureau of Investigation for illegal gambling activities. Although the law enforcement agency did not clarify that charge, it is likely that Will Hill is being looked at for facilitating illegal bets in-country.
A company statement by the firm refuted the allegations, saying: "With regards to these allegations, we believe that there are no activities occurring in our Philippines operations which are contrary to the law".
"In the Philippines, William Hill is a member of the Government-run PEZA scheme (Philippine Economic Zone Authority), which incentivises businesses, on a fully transparent basis, to establish and run operations in the Philippines. William Hill complies with local laws and applies consistent global policies for its operations to abide by."
To make up for the center's suspension William Hill announced that it has enacted a continuity measure that will take over for the Filipino location until the investigation is cleared up.
