Hacking Attack Shuts Down Svenska Spel Poker Tournament

This story was published more than 8 years ago.

A hacking attack on the Swedish gaming site Svenska Spel shut down an online poker tournament, causing the event to be cancelled.

The tournament cancelled the action for 1,451 players and was a result of a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack, which caused the site to go offline. The attack is one of several that Svenska Spel suffered in recent days.

The attacks appear to have been repelled as of the publication of this article, and Svenska Spel's website is currently up and running.

Damn, what kind of idiots attack a poker tournament? What could their motivation be?

There could be lots of reasons - competitors, extortionists, a player that is feeling burnt because they lost some money at the site, or just idiots who enjoy annoying others (this is the internet after all).

Always play it safe! Consult our list of rogue casinos and warnings before depositing at a new casino.
