Dutch Land Casinos Fear Online Gambling

This story was published more than 9 years ago.

Dutch land casino lobbying group VAN Speelautomaten has spoke out to the media regarding its concerns over legalized online gambling, saying that it puts Dutch betting jobs at stake.

VAN Speelautomaten claimed that legalized betting could cost the economy up to 6,000 jobs, noting the different tax rates for online betting creating increased competition. Currently land casinos are being taxed at a rate of 29%, while online casinos are slated to be taxed at a rate of just 29%.

The group also has gone on to claim that land casinos will be more tightly regulated on their games, and will eventually cause casinos to stop offering slots as a result.

Although these claims are quite serious, it should be noted that the lobbying body did not offer up any hard stats to back their case.

Casino Listings will update this story as more developments arise.
