Canadian Sports Betting Executive Gets 26 Months in Jail

A Canadian who was an executive in an online sportsbetting ring was sentenced to 26 months in jail for online sports betting through a criminal investigation.

Benedetto Manasseri was given the jail sentence after he plead guilty to being the head of an online sports gambling ring. His ring operated in Ottawa, and made more than $842,000 within a five month period in 2012. The group operated three sportsbetting sites which serviced punters within the region.

Manasseri was brought down as part of Operation Amethyst, a police sting that began in 2010 to take down organized crime in the area. As a result of the guilty plea the former executive will spend 26 months in jail.
