Bulgaria Sets its Sights on Gambling Apps

Bulgaria's gambling regulator the State Gambling Commission has announced plans to ban smartphone apps which are powered by operators who operate without a proper betting license.

The SGC will adopt a similar blacklist to the one it uses to keep illegal operators off computer screens of Bulgarian punters. The regulator is using underage betting as a factor in trying to get the blacklist, noting how some players end up doling out cash for "free" apps.

Commenting on the issue the SGC's Peter Naessens said, "Canadian figures show that one in three young people under 18 are using these apps. Often they think those apps are free, but after a while you start to pay for the app. That amount can really add up."
