New Jersey Politicians to Introduce Bills Supporting Sports Betting

A few days after New Jersey Governor Chris Christie announced that he had declared sports betting to be legal within his state fellow politicians are jumping on board with plans to introduce legislation that backs up the Governor.

New Jersey State Senator and outspoken gambling proponent Ray Lesniak announced that he would be introducing legislation that clarifies New Jersey's budding sports betting industry, abolishing rules that prohibit Atlantic City casinos or racetracks within the state from taking sports bets from clients.

Introducing the bill will stop further legal challenges by opponents to legal sports betting. Those directly opposed to such a move include major sports leagues and the federal government.

Sports betting is seen as a way to potentially boost casino revenues in New Jersey, which have suffered mightily over the past several years.
