On Monday the United States' four major sports leagues and the NCAA filed a legal motion in US Federal Court to block New Jersey's latest attempt to offer legal sportsbetting in the Garden State.
The legal challenge was filed on the deadline set by US Judge Michael Shipp, who is working on re-determining legal sportsbetting in New Jersey. The judge is clarifying his previous ruling that sportsbetting in New Jersey violates federal law, but could potentially offer such bets if the state repealed existing anti-sportsbetting laws.
In an effort to take away that latter argument New Jersey State Senator Ray Lesniak is working to introduce legislation that would repeal all former anti-sportsbetting laws in-state.
A hearing for both sides to argue their points will be held on October 6th, 2014.
