Internet poker giant PokerStars has announced that its Bulgarian poker site has gone live, five months after the group acquired its betting license.
The site is being launched on the new PokerStars 7 software for desktop players, but will eventually grow to feature mobile betting as well. It is the first online poker site to launch since Bulgaria liberalized the online betting market.
With the addition of the Bulgarian site, PokerStars currently is entitled to operate within France, Italy, Denmark, Germany, Belgium, Spain, Malta, Estonia, and the Isle of Man. It is expected that PokerStars' sister company Full Tilt will go operational once it obtains a Bulgarian license as well.
Commenting on the launch of the site Rational Group Communications Chief Eric Hollreiser said, “PokerStars strives to be first-in-market when online poker licenses are made available and we’re proud to be the first locally licensed poker site in Bulgaria. We believe in the potential of the Bulgarian market and that is why our company has invested in the local license.”
