Poll: South Carolina Residents Opposed to Online Betting

A poll conducted by Palmetta Politics revealed that the majority of South Carolina residents are opposed to the legalization of online gambling.

According to the poll, 68% of residents of the state are opposed to regulating and legalizing online gambling, while 17% were in support, and 15% were undecided.

The results of the poll are likely heavily influenced by the state's strong religious stance, which is composed of many conservative Christians. Additionally, the state's residents don't know too much about the issue, which likely has an impact on the results of the survey.

The news of the strong feelings toward online betting will likely encourage Senator Lindsey Graham, a South Carolina native who is currently seeking a federal ban on online betting.

Commenting on the results Pollster Jim Lee said, "Online gambling is not an issue that the general public, in my opinion, has a lot of familiarity with to know if it's really a net gain or net loss for the state. Most people really don't see a reason why they should really say yes to that question unless there's some carrot there."
