Philippines Moves to Strengthen Betting Restrictions

A Filipino politician has introduced a bill that would clamp down on illegal operators who offer online betting services to minors, bringing lengthy jail sentences to offenders.

Dubbed House Bill 4540, the bill was introduced by Representative Samuel Pagdilao and would bring prison terms ranging between 5 and 10 years as well as fines for operators offering online betting to citizens under the age of 18.

Monetary fines range from between P5 million to P10 million.

The criminal sentences also extend to parents or guardians who knowingly allow minors to bet online.
