The government of Macau has announced that it brought in MOP71.03 billion in tax revenue in the first half of 2014, up 16% from the same time last year.
The amount of tax revenue equates to $8.9 billion in US Dollars. The money is already more than half of the yearly target for tax revenue that the government set out achieve.
That large total made up more than 85% of the total tax revenue that the Macau government brought in from all citizens and businesses, revealing yet again how important gambling is to the former Portuguese colony's economy.
The high tax revenue is a good thing, as it is uncertain whether or not the second half of the year will live up to the first half. Last month, the gambling mecca reported revenues that were down 3.7% from the same period last year.
