Filipino Police Bust Up Korean Gambling Ring

This story was published more than 9 years ago.

Police in Angeles City, Philippines have announced that they have busted up a gambling ring, arresting four Koreans and seizing computers in the process.

The four Koreans arrested in the ring were Cho Rae Man (41), Son Kwang Hyun (32), Kim Jong Hoon (33) and An Tae Young (34), who all face illegal gambling charges. Additional women were working in the location, but told police that they were unaware of anything illegal, maintaining that they were sending emails urging recipients to visit a Korean betting site.

Along with the men taken into custody, police seized eight computers and additional evidence which will be used to aid in the case.

Although the group was arrested, there is a chance that the men running the ring could be let go without penalty, as there is currently no penalty attached to illegal online gambling. Politicians are working to amend the law though, in an effort to crack down on illegal betting within the country.
