UK politicians visited online betting sites more than 4 million times in the last year, this according to public records that new publication The Express obtained this week.
The records indicate that politicians and their staff visited online betting sites that large number of times, making wagers on everything from casino games to fantasy sports and trivia games.
There are 5,000 staff members working at Westminster, 1,100 of which are politicians.
A Spokesperson for the House of Commons attempted to justify the visits, noting that pop-up ads often count as page views for betting content. The Spokesperson noted: “Some sites use an auto-refresh tool which keeps reloading elements of a page without the user clicking any buttons.”
It should be noted that pornography is another popular segment visited by UK politicians, clocking in 300,000 visits during the year.
