Switzerland Moves Ahead On Internet Gambling Regulation

This story was published more than 10 years ago.

Politicians in Switzerland have begun the process of regulating online gambling in their country after years of debate.

The move came when the Federal Council of Switzerland began drafting a bill that would spell out the law, including licensing, regulation structures, tax laws, and prevention of underage and problem gambling.

Currently there are nineteen land based casinos operating within Switzerland, and it is thought that any regulation would include language that would allow those casinos to apply for a license.

Online gambling regulation has been debated in the country for the past five years, after a study suggested legalizing the act while issuing stiff penalties for offshore operators.
