Law enforcement officials in China have announced that Shanghai police have broken up a massive online gambling ring, which was reported to have generated more than $18 billion in bets.
The massive ring was believed to have been in operation for more than ten years, and is suspected of offering illegal betting services to more than 10,000 punters.
Police were able to hone in on the gambling ring by identifying the locations of the ring's members as well as information on associated bank accounts.
When the raid went down 63 people were taken into custody, 58 accounts were seized, and 60,000 yuan in cash was confiscated.
The ring is believed to be the largest criminal online betting operation in China's history. The ringleader has been identified as a man named Hong, but he has not yet been taken into custody by Chinese authorities.
