Gibraltar Fire Causes Outages At Ladbrokes, BetFred, William Hill

This story was published more than 9 years ago.

A large fire in Gibraltar caused an outage in betting services to several large internet casinos over the weekend, knocking industry giants like Ladbrokes, William Hill, and BetFred out for some time.

The fire was caused by a large fuel tank explosion and ended up affecting the area's power system. Houses in the area were evacuated while the fire was dealt with.

The fire started at about 1pm and was extinguished about three and a half hours later.

Although many operators were completely knocked offline by the fire, some spots such as BetVictor were able to remain online thanks to power generators, which kept the firm's servers up and running.
