A South African woman plead guilty from stealing from her employer to bet online, taking more than R2.6 million in the process.

Lizette Stassen was an employee at non-profit gay rights organization "Out", where she used her position in the financial services sector to steal the large amount of funds. She did this by misappropriating funds, forging checks and using company credit cards to send money to her personal account.

The stolen funds went to various online casinos as well as being used to finance vacations and other luxury goods.

Out has claimed that the theft has caused the group to cancel projects and reduce costs.

Even though Stassen plead guilty, she refused to repay the funds she took. She is currently awaiting sentencing by the Commercial Crimes Court in Pretoria.
