Betclic Fined €600,000 By Belgian Regulator

Internet betting firm Betclic has been fined €600,000 by the Belgian Gaming Commission for providing unlicensed betting to punters in the country.

The action comes in the form of seized funds, which were discovered by Belgian financial institutions and reported to the regulator.

Under Belgian law, operators found operating illegally in the country can be fined up to €600,000, while punters themselves can be fined €25,000. Betclic has never applied for a gaming license in the Western European country, and currently sits on the regulator's blacklist.

While the fine has been imposed, Betclic may end up appealing the ruling to the European Commission, which has ruled that such tactics to stomp out online betting are illegal.
