Adelson's Letter Drive Falls Flat

Land based gambling billionaire Sheldon Adelson's attempt to have 50 state Attorney Generals sign a letter urging Congress to ban online gambling at a federal level has failed, only resulting in 15 of the state officials signing the dotted line.

The number is well short of the goal set by the Coalition to Stop Internet Gambling, and even falls below the number of a similar letter drive in 2007 when 40 signed a letter urging a ban.

The states that signed the letter were: Arizona, Florida, Hawaii, Kansas, Michigan, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Carolina, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Wisconsin and Wyoming, along with Guam.

Commenting on CSIG's failure, Poker Players Alliance Executive Director John Pappas said, “We would have liked to have seen none sign the letter, but 15 is far less than more than 40 who signed (a similar) letter in 2007.”
