Las Vegas Sands Owner and anti-gambling advocate Sheldon Adelson is reportedly gearing up to press harder with his campaign to ban online gambling in the United States, this according to Nevada journalist Jon Ralston.
Ralston reported that Adelson is setting up his lobby group to block internet betting legalization on a state by state basis. The revelation came from Adelson's head lobbyist Andy Abboud, who said, "We are prepared to mount full campaigns in every state where a bill is introduced to legalize any form of online gaming. We will also be doing education in all states to prevent the introduction of any bills."
"We are going to make it 'the plague."
The tone of Abboud's comments are concerning to groups such as the American Gaming Association, who also came out in the past few weeks in order to voice support for legal online betting within the United States. The AGA has taken to adding experienced political advisors to its staff in order to fight Adelson's onslaught. The group has reportedly concluding an ally drive, gaining the input of many influential individual who oppose a federal ban on internet gambling.
