Bwin.Party Digital Entertainment has announced that its subsidiary Party Poker has signed a multi-year sponsorship deal with the New Jersey Devils of the National Hockey League, and the Philadelphia 76ers of the National Basketball Association.
The deals are the first of its kind in the United States, and has been made possible by the fact that Party Poker is operating legally in the state of New Jersey.
Both of the pro teams are owned by entrepreneur Josh Harris, who is reportedly worth more than $2.1 billion. The New Jersey Devils have won three Stanley Cup Championships since their formation, while the 76ers have taken home 3 NBA titles.
The announcement was made by Bwin CEO Norbert Teufelberger as well as the Scott O'Neill, who serves as the CEO for both of the teams.
Commenting on the deal, O'Neill said, “This is our flag in the ground that we do things differently. We’re looking for ground-breaking opportunities with companies willing to take chances. “We have this moment in time that allows a company like ours, which is unique, which frames New Jersey, a pretty incredible opportunity."
