Malaysian Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has revealed details on his specialized task force that will combat illegal gambling in his country.
Hamidi told a group of reporters that the operations team will feature 200 officers who will be based in Kuala Lumpur, but will serve the entire county. Selangor is reportedly going to be the primary focus for the group's first round of operations, as there are reportedly more than 2,000 illegal gambling rings in operation.
The Minister went on to voice warning to the rings, telling them to shut down before the police got to them, and also told local authorities to crack down on gambling, or else risk federal involvement in their territories.
In addition to illegal gambling, the task force will also fight "secret societies" and illegal weapons dealers.
