Malta Received More Illegal Gambling Reports In 2013

The Malta Lotteries and Gaming Authority received more illegal online gambling reports last year, but that few of the cases were prosecuted due to lack of evidence, this according to the island's Economy Minister Chris Cardona.

105 illegal gambling complaints were handled by the regulator last year, which was higher than the 44 reports filed in 2012, 34 reports issued in 2011, 16 reports in 2010, and 96 reports in 2009.

While the cases were filed, few of them were actually able to be prosecuted, as there was not enough evidence to pursue the case.

Malta has come under fire recently for a lack of protection for players, who have been affected by brisk shutdowns of Malta licensed casinos.
