Player Wins Massive $400 Million Lottery Jackpot

An American lottery player from Lexington, South Carolina is massively wealthy this week, after they won a massive $400 million Powerball jackpot.

The winner hit the jackpot on Wednesday and bought the ticket at a Murphy's Express gas station, one of 356 tickets that the station sold for the drawing.

The winning numbers for the lottery were 7-10-22-32-35 with the Powerball number 19. The winner used the Powerball "quick pick" system to generate his lottery ticket, and has 180 days to claim the prize.

The winner will have the option to take home $13 million over 29 years or a one time cash payment of $223 million.

I'll never understand why they tax the full amount after they pay it out? Is it because different ppl have different tax brackets so ev1s taxed different OR they like the inflated $400M to lure in the punters? New Zealands lottery pays out the full amount tax free because the tax is built in to the price.

Probly some bigass tax equation explains the scenario but sheesh make things hard why don't they!!

I don't get it either. The tax amount should just like you said they do in New Zealand. We do have different brackets here, but anything for a lottery win would instantly put you in the top.

It just seems odd to me. The first thing I always do when I see a huge jackpot is find out the post-tax amount... its a pain!
