The Dutch Gaming Authority has announced that it has levied a €100,000 fine on internet betting operator Global Stars for offering action to residents of the Netherlands.
The fine was given after the DGA, which is known as Kansspelautoriteit, investigated Global Stars' online betting properties and concluded it was illegally offering action to residents of the Netherlands.
Global Stars currently operates the betting sites myglobalgames.com, boekesbingo.nl, and myglobalgames.nl, which all reroute punters to myglobalgames.com. The first three sites are specifically named as violating the Unfair commercial Practices Act, which allows Kansspelautoriteit to impose the heavy fines.
Commenting on the fine Kansspelautoriteit Chairman of the Board of Directors Jan Suyver said, "It is of social importance that consumers are informed and warned that if they participate in online gambling there are risks. I also expect that the disclosure of the penalty decision to other companies and individuals will have a preventive effect and make it clear that the provision of (online) gambling without a Dutch license is prohibited in the Netherlands."
