Google Play To Remove Gambling Apps

Google's app purchasing marketplace Google Play has announced that it will be banning gambling apps from its virtual shelves, giving app designers 30 days to either adjust the content of the software or pull out.

The move echoes what Apple has done in terms of gambling apps, and officially lists gambling related software as an "undesirable app". If operators do not alter their apps within the timeframe, Google has announced that it will remove the apps from its store.

In addition to booting existing apps, Google announced that it will no longer accept “content or services that facilitate online gambling, including but not limited to, online casinos, sports betting and lotteries, or games of skill."

While the apps may no longer be available through Google Play, it is likely that gambling apps will continue to be offered through betting operators, as Google's Android platform allows for apps to be installed manually through outside websites.
