A 68 year old man from California was sentenced to sixteen months in a federal prison after he plead guilty to helping operate an online sportsbetting website.
Richard Allen Hancock was given the jail term by US District Judge David Russell, who gave him credit for cooperating federal authorities, but gave him a stiff fine in addition to the prison time. Hancock will have to forfeit $1.45 million in cash and assets. He previously gave up $1 million that he had stored in his home state.
Hancock admitted to the court earlier this year that he was the ringleader in a sportsbetting operation who oversaw between eight and ten additional subordinates. His partner in crime Teddy Mitchell also plead guilty earlier this year, but claimed he did not know doing so was illegal.
