Hyves Social Network To Block Dutch Gaming Ads

This story was published more than 10 years ago.

The Dutch social networking firm Hyves has announced that it has agreed to block online gambling advertisements from its website, due to a request being put in by Kansspelautoriteit, the Dutch gambling authority.

Hyves made the move while acknowledging that it has an important role in protecting its customers from illegal ads. Those protected from the ads include children, who make a good sized portion of Hyves' user base.

Based in the Netherlands, Hyves is a social network that serves more than two million users. The site is a competitor with other social sites such as Facebook.

It is currently unknown which gaming operators are affected by this move.
