Illinois Senator Attempts New Online Gambling Push

This story was published more than 11 years ago.

An Illinois State Senator has decided to undergo another attempt to legalize online gambling in the Land of Lincoln, which would cover all forms of internet gambling outside of sportsbetting.

The initiative will be introduced by State Senate President John Cullerton, who tried to pass similar legislation in the past. While official details have not been divulged, it is speculated that the bill would require a $20 million licensing fee to be paid, with a tax rate raging from 7.5-20.0%. Participation in legalized Illinois online gambling would be restricted to those aged 21 or higher.

If the bill is passed, the state's online gambling division would be run by a department within the state's lottery division called the Division of Internet Gambling.

Casino Listings will keep this story updated with more information as official details are revealed.
