Nevada's First Legal Online Poker Site Goes Live

This story was published more than 11 years ago.

April 30th, 2013 became a historic day in the United States, as the state of Nevada had its first legalized and regulated online poker site launch, as Ultimate Poker went live.

Ultimate Poker is the first such firm to offer legalized betting games online in the United States. The site is owned by Station Casinos LLC, and was created by four gaming entrepreneurs. The site uses its own software to act as the poker site's mainframe, and will offer Texas Hold'em games with stakes ranging from $0.01/$0.02 up to $10/$20.

Commenting on the launch Ultimate Gaming CEO Tobin Prior said, "There was black Friday, and now we're going to have 'trusting Tuesday. Players won't have to worry if their money is safe. They are going to be able to play with people they can trust and know the highest regulatory standards have been applied."

“We feel our technology is a major advantage. Ultimate Poker’s proprietary software is completely owned and operated by parent company Ultimate Gaming, allowing for continuous investment and product development. The technology was acquired in 2011 and initially developed by a U.S.-based company with a completely clean regulatory profile.”

Open to punters 21 and older, players can withdraw and cash out funds from 16 Station Casinos throughout Nevada. Registrants must provide a social security number and legitimate Nevada address.

“We have worked closely with state gaming regulators to demonstrate our unique and compelling poker platform that, above all, players know they can trust. Ultimate Poker is dedicated to being the players’ choice for online poker,” Ultimate Poker Co-Founder Tom Breitling said.

"This is a really huge moment for our company, the state of Nevada and the gaming community. We're hoping to make poker fun again."

Sounds great... if you live in Nevada. I've read they triangulate your mobile phone signal to ensure that you are physically present in Nevada while playing.
