Spain Boasts One Million Online Punters

Spanish internet etting regulator La Dirección General de Ordenación del Juego released released its fourth quarter 2012 financial statistics, noting that the country now has more than one million punters betting online.

Other highlights of the report were:

  • Gross Gaming Revenues of €61.4 million during the period, up 40% from the third quarter

  • Bets handled amounted to €1.36 billion during the period, a rise of 24% from the third quarter

  • Sports betting accounted for 48.4% of all online bets

  • Poker revenues amounted to €483 million

  • Slots accounted for 12.4% of all slot revenues

  • Online bingo brought in 3.6% of the business in the European country.

  • Online sign ups averaged 72,500 for the quarter, which is down from the 100,000 per month average in the third quarter.

It will certainly be interesting to see what happens as the Spanish market further liberalizes the market by opening slot games to operators.
