The Microgaming Poker Network's recently re-launched bad beat jackpot has been already hit, with an "unlucky" player taking home the jackpot at Stan James Poker.
The big winner is Peter from Rochdale, UK, who took in €370,788.79 with his losing hand. The jackpot was triggered at just around 8pm on March 19th.
Peter had a straight flush, and was beaten by a player with a slightly better straight flush on the turn. Surprisingly, the winner of the hand decided not to opt-in on the game, and was forced to settle for just the €81.21 that he won from the hand. If he had participated, the winner would have taken home €185,394.
Other players at the table that did decide to participate were awarded with €47,134.16 each.
Speaking through Stan James' Management, the winner said: "I had been waiting for the re-launch of the Bad Beat Jackpot tables as the old format was out of my league. I thought I’d have a bash last night (19th) as on the new tables it is both easier to hit and is now available at tables within my budget."
"Once I hit the straight flush on the turn, I was praying for the board to pair so there would be a chance of the jackpot triggering, it had not even occurred to me that there would be a higher straight flush out there."
"I checked the turn and called the bet from my opponent and went all in on the river. I had lost the hand and it took a minute for the realisation to sink in I had won the Bad Beat Jackpot! I sat there speechless for a quarter of an hour staring at the amount I'd won in the chat box."
"This win is a life changing amount for me and my family; I am still trying to get my head around what this means to us. Thank you for running a great promotion."
Richard Cunningham, Head of Poker at Stan James also commented, saying: “This is obviously fantastic news for Peter and it just goes to show the value of opting in to promotions such as this. We’re all chuffed to bits for him here and long may his lucky streak continue.”
