Schleswig Holstein Internet Gaming Licenses Not Valid In Rest Of Germany

This story was published more than 11 years ago.

Gaming operators who hold internet licenses in the German state of Schleswig Holstein have been warned by officials that their permits are restricted to just the single state and not valid throughout Germany's other 15 states.

The clarification of the law was brought on after one operator claimed the licenses were valid throughout all of Germany. It turns out that lawmakers in the country have threatened to prosecute any operators who violate the law, up to and including the ability to withdraw a firm's licensing.

Historically Schleswig Holstein has fallen into an odd spot with the rest of Germany's states regarding internet gambling. The current government in place wants to repeal the current internet gambling friendly legislation and jump into ranks with the other 15 German states that are more harsh on internet gambling.
