Problem Gambling Postman Sent To Jail For Embezzling

Former Irish Postman Tony O'Reilly was sentenced to four years in prison after he admitted that he embezzled €1.75 million from his place of employment in order to feed his online gambling habit.

O'Reilly was sentenced by Judge Pauline Codd in Wexford Circuit Court, who noted that the former Post Office Manager breached the trust of his superiors by using the money to fund his out of control behavior.

The defendant admitted to six counts of theft as well as an additional six charges of falsifying accounting documents for the An Post service between 2010 and 2011.

O'Reilly's your year sentence contains a condition wherein the final year is suspended if he attends counseling after exiting the prison.
