PokerStars Pro Theo Jorgensen Shot In Denmark

This story was published more than 10 years ago.

The online poker world was shocked by reports that PokerStars Pro Team player Theo Jorgensen has been shot by armed robbers in Denmark, sustaining serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Jorgensen was shot on Sunday evening following a break in wherein armed robbers demanded cash from the poker pro.

Despite being given the cash, the robbers apparently were not satisfied and shot Jorgensen three times in front of his wife before running from the house.

Jorgensen sought to update his supporters via his Facebook page, noting that he is a careful man, and had installed theft alarms in his house to prevent break-ins, although he conceded that his efforts "unfortunately proved not to be enough.”

Police say that Jorgensen and his wife were able to provide detailed descriptions of the robbers to them, including the fact that the men were English speakers. One of the men was reportedly armed with a sub-machine gun.

Jorgensen has won more than $2.5 million in career prize money, and took home a WPT Poker Tournament title at the WPT Grand Prix de Paris in 2010. In the same year he also placed 30th in the WSOP Main Event.
