Cyprus To Crack Down On Gambling During Christmas

A report by island newspaper The Cyprus Mail is claiming that law enforcement on the island will be stepping up illegal online gambling busts during the upcoming holiday season.

Andreas Angelides, a spokesman for the Cypriot Police said that law enforcement is working on the crackdown during the holiday season, as it is one of the busiest times of the year for online gambling. The crackdown is expected to begin December 10th and last until January 13th, 2013.

Live gambling is also being cracked down on, as police have recently raided eleven shops, taking seventeen people into custody. Computers, cash, and printers were also seized by the authorities.

Since the crackdown went into place in July, 103 people have been arrested by Cypriot police while 100 computers, 65 printers, and €19,000 has been seized.
