A 46 year old woman was sentenced to three years in jail after she defrauded her 91 year old grandmother out of money from the sale of her house to feed an online gambling addiction.
Brenda Lowe was given the jail sentence after she took funds out of the £142,000 that her grandmother got after she sold her house to move into an elderly care home after it was burglarized.
The defendant was caught when her brother approached their grandmother for the loan, only to find out that the money was gone. Because of the crime, the elderly woman is unable to pay for her home and is £6,500 in debt.
Admitting her crimes to the court, Lowe said she took some of the money to go on vacation and to buy a car, but that most of the money went towards gambling at Jackpot Joy Casino.
The same court also handed the woman an additional 8 months in jail after she fraudulently sold tickets to a George Michael concert to 24 people on eBay, despite the fact that she did not have any of the tickets.

I can't even believe, when I read things like that, that it can be blamed on "addiction," and maybe I am being ignorant, but come on. To me, that is just plain evil and GREEDY! Her own grandmother. Disgusting! 😢
