South African police announced this week that they have conducted an online gambling ring in Mashishing earlier this week resulting in the seizure of 20 computers and shut the cafe down.

Bheki Mlambo of the Mpumalanga Gambling Board issued a warning to online gambling operators, saying that their activities hinder economic growth and violate the country's laws.

“They are liable for prosecution and similarly anyone using these illegal services will also be prosecuted leading to a fine of up to R10 Million or up to 10 years of imprisonment or both,” said Mlambo.

Colonel Leonard Hlati of the local police department also commented, saying: “We are working hard to clampdown on these outlets as they appear to be a growing trend.”
